On January 27-28, representatives of the Offshore Wind Ports Platform operating within WindEurope, the Wind Industry Hub Foundation (WIH) and the Polish Wind Energy Association had a unique opportunity to visit the site of the Swinoujscie Installation Port and take a cruise along the Szczecin port infrastructure, during which the industrial potential of the Port of Szczecin was presented.
The meeting, which we had the pleasure of coordinating, was attended by representatives of:
- Groningen Seaports
- Port of Liepaja
- Port of Rønne
- Euroports
- Port of Esbjerg
- Port of Odense
- DENA (German Energy Agency)
- BMWK (Federal Ministry)
The Port of Szczecin-Swinoujscie plays a strategic role in the Polish OWE sector, being a key link in the implementation of future energy projects in the Baltic Sea.
The Installation Port in Swinoujscie is one of the flagship OWE investments in Poland. The Orlen Neptun company is responsible for the land part of the work, while Zarząd Morskich Portów Szczecin i Świnoujście S.A. was responsible for the hydrotechnical part, i.e. the construction of two wharves and dredging work at the wharves. Key components of offshore wind farms, such as towers, blades and nacelles, will be handled and stored at the port. Vestas’ offshore wind turbine nacelle factory and Windar’s XXL offshore wind tower factory will play a key role in the development of offshore wind energy in Poland and Europe. As we learned during the meeting, the Szczecin port will soon see more offshore wind sector investments.
We would like to thank the representatives of ORLEN Neptun and the Szczecin and Swinoujscie Seaports Authority for their hospitality, interesting presentations and commitment, as well as Budimex for its cooperation in making the facility available during construction.
