On September 10, 2024, a press conference “Offshore wind – it pays off!” was held. The opening presentation was made by Janusz Gajowiecki, President of the Polish Wind Energy Association and Wind Industry Hub Foundation, and then the conversation with leading investors in the domestic market was moderated by Dominika Taranko, Vice President and Managing Director of Wind Industry Hub.
❗💨💶Energy from offshore wind will contribute to lower electricity prices in the market, according to a recent analysis by the Polish Wind Energy Association.
❗💨💶 Experts have calculated that if 18 GW of offshore wind power is introduced into the energy mix, it will reduce the price of energy by up to 50%, compared to the price achieved if only 5.9 GW is introduced.
❗💨💶 Offshore development also means a number of savings for the economy in the form of lower fuel purchase costs (coal, gas), or lower costs of obtaining CO2 emission allowances.
❗💨💶 As calculated by PWEA experts in the “Offshore – it pays off” analysis, in the scenario envisaging the development of OWE to 5.9 GW, the cost of purchasing electricity by end users in 2026 to 2040 will be PLN 1033.3 billion, and in the case of the scenario of including 18 GW from OWE by 2040, the cost will be PLN 841.9 billion – so the level of savings is enormous, amounting to more than PLN 190 billion.
