On Wednesday, April 16, on the eve of the launch of the Polish Strategy for the Development of Offshore Wind Farms, we had the opportunity to participate in ORLEN Neptun Supplier Day. Over 300 people from around 100 companies took part in the first Supplier Day for the Baltic East project. We would like to congratulate the organizers!

The event began with speeches by Minister of State Assets Robert Kropiwnicki and ORLEN Vice-President for Energy Transformation Artur Osuchowski. The debate on building an optimal supply chain for the second phase of offshore wind energy projects was attended by Janusz Bil, President of the Management Board of ORLEN Neptun, Grzegorz Szabliński, President of the Management Board of Baltic Power, Dominika Taranko, Vice-President of the Management Board of Wind Industry Hub, and Leszek Stypulkowski, Member of the Management Board of National Development Bank (BGK).

The panelists agreed that creating a strong supply chain with a high share of local content requires close cooperation between developers, state administration, financial institutions and industry organisations. According to the participants, the implementation of a strategy for the development of the offshore wind farm industry supporting companies aspiring to join the local and, ultimately, global supply chain will be key to achieving this goal.

During the debate, recommendations were also formulated for entrepreneurs who would like to join the OWE supply chain:

  • Understanding the structure of the supply chain and the roles of its individual participants (Tier 1-4).
  • Gaining the necessary experience and know-how through partnerships with key suppliers.
  • The need for bottom-up supply chain cooperation within consortia in order to respond more effectively to the developer’s purchasing processes.
  • Awareness of the quality, safety, and financial requirements imposed on subcontractors.
  • Confirmation of the necessary qualifications with relevant certificates.

The second part of the event presented the status of the Baltic East project and discussed the processes, requirements, and scope of contracting for the main components of the farm.
